Elizabeth 'Betty' Newberry

April 19, 1918 — October 1, 1999

Elizabeth 'Betty' Crile Huff Newberry, of Grant St., SW, New Phila. And formerly from Elyria, passed away Friday, October 1, 1999 in Union Hospital at Dover.

She was born April 19, 1918, a daughter of the late Clayton and Mary Crile Huff.  

Betty had worked at the cafeteria at Union Hospital in Dover and in the Elyria memorial Hospital.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover, and had also been a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Elyria.  

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Walk who died in June of 1955.  In 1967 she wed Clifford Newberry.  They lived in Elyria until he passed away in September of 1992.  Betty and Clifford had belonged to the Arthur Murry dance Class and several bowling teams.  They also danced several years at Sandusky for benefit of the American Cancer Society.  The couple enjoyed traveling, and in celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary, they took a cruise on the Love Boat.  While on the cruise, they won a talent contest by dancing to a song that Clifford had written for Betty entitled 'Loving You and You Loving Me.'  The band director liked the song so much that Clifford gave him permission to use it in the future.

3 sisters Ruth Doll of Sugarcreek
Robert & Helen Gerbetz of New Phila.
Emma Carolyn Wolf of Northville, MI
Brother Donald and Thelma Huff of Dover
Several nieces, nephews, and dear friends

In addition to her husbands and parents, Betty was preceded in death by a brother Paul John Huff who died in 1942.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 4, at 11:00am in the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover with Pastor Donald Pentz officiating.  Interment will be in the Rest Haven Memory Gardens at Avon, Ohio.  Friends may call in the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5pm.  Those unable to attend may sign the on-line register for Betty on our website at www.tolandherzig.com.
