Eleanore Steffans Provan

August 12, 1912 — April 6, 2000

Eleanore Steffans Provan - our beautiful, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sweetheart and friend - passed away surrounded by her family on April 6, 2000, in her home in Seminole, Florida, after a valiant, uncomplaining struggle with lymphoma.

Eleanore and her twin sister, Erma (who passed away in Cleveland the day following Eleanore's death) were born on August 12, 1912 in Cleveland to Lena Brandenberg and Peter C. Steffans. On July 18, 1933, she married William M. Provan, who died in 1990. They raised their family in Amsterdam and New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Skilled in homemaking, needlework and crafts, Eleanore especially enjoyed giving gifts of her handiwork to her family and friends. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener. Eleanore was a member of the First Christian Church at Largo, Florida.

Eleanore will be deeply missed by her six children: three daughters; Marilyn Pocock of Spotsylvania, VA, Eleanore Carolyn (John) Henrie of Salt Lake City, Utah, Juanita (Ralph) Carson of Shelby, Ohio and three sons; William (Maxine) Provan of Napa, California, Harry (Cindy) Provan of Dover, and Peter (Cathie) Provan of Bloomingdale, Ohio. Her legacy also includes 22 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren who loved their Grandma dearly. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and her very dear friend Ken McIntosh of Seminole, Florida.

To her family, Mom and Grandma will always be remembered for her kindness, for teaching us through love and example, and for her unconditional love for each one of us. Her sense of humor and her concern and care for others have endeared her to many friends and neighbors. Her life was a lesson in selflessness and her spirit lives on in each of us.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2000 at 1:30pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover. Those unable to attend may sign the online register book for Eleanore by visiting the ''online obituaries'' link on our website at www.tolandherzig.com

The family wishes to thank the Florida Suncoast Hospice for their tender care of Eleanore in her home during the past three months. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Suncoast Hospice, 300 East Bay Drive, Seminole, FL 33772.

The National Cremation society of Clearwater, FL handled the Florida arrangements.
