Elden G. Fondriest

Elden G. Fondriest, 81, of Dover, Ohio died Sunday, October 15, 2006 in Union Hospital following a brief illness.

Elden was a longtime real estate appraiser and dealer. He was also a retired Vice President and Loan officer for the Huntington Bank and former Reeves Banking and Trust Company in Dover.

Born July 21, 1925 in Dover, he was the son of the late James K. and Sybilla (Franz) Fondriest. He was also preceded in death by a brother, J. Earl Fondriest.

Elden was a member of the St. Joseph�(TM)s Catholic Church in Dover where he was a 9:30am usher for over sixty years. He was also a life member of the Dover Council of the Knights of Columbus where he also served as District Deputy. He was a former member of the Tuscarawas County Board of Realtors. He was a graduate of former St. Joseph High School. He served in the US Army during World War II where he was in the 42nd Thunderbird Division in Germany. He had many interests including hunting, reading, history, and woodworking.

He was known as “Uncle Heidi” to his 32 nieces and nephews, 86 great nieces and nephews and five great great nieces and nephews. He was a friend to everyone and will be remembered for his kindness and generosity.

Elden is survived by three sisters and two brothers; Jean Fondriest with whom he resided, Nadine (Bill) Collins of Walton Hills, Ron (Sue) Fondriest of Dover, Marian (John) Karl of Dover, and Ervin (Annalee) Fondriest of Norwalk and his sister in law, Mary Fondriest of Dover.

A funeral mass celebrating Elden�(TM)s life will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 11am in the St. Joseph�(TM)s Catholic Church in Dover with Fr. William Arnold and his brother, Deacon Ron Fondriest officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Friends will be received at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Tuesday from 4-8 pm. A Christian Wake service will be held Tuesday at 7:45pm in the funeral home.
