Effie L. Groh

Effie L. Groh, 87, of New Philadelphia, Ohio died Tuesday, April 24, 2007 in Union Hospital following a brief illness.

Effie was born May 7, 1919, the daughter of the late Albert Henry and Effie Mae (Roth) Smith.

She was an employee of the former J.C. Penney�(TM)s in Dover. She had also previousy worked at the former Helmkamp's Restaurant in downtown Dover.

In addition to her parents, Effie was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, William F. (Bill) Groh who died April 20, 2006. They were married on June 11, 1946. She was also preceded by an aunt, Alice Jolliff.

She was a longtime member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at Dover. She was also previously active in the CCL. She and her husband enjoyed their retirement years in Lakeland, Florida. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge as well as crocheting and crossword puzzles. During earlier years, when raising their family they enjoyed many fishing trips to Michigan.

She is survived by her son, William Groh and Lynda Williams of Dover and her daughter, Judy (Tom) Widder of Moorefield, West Virginia; three grandchildren, Amy Groh, Hannah and Sarah Widder and two great grandchildren, Tyler W. Groh and Alexis Eileen Johnston.

Funeral services celebrating Effie�(TM)s life will be held Friday, April 27, 2007 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover with Pastor Jim Lewis officiating. Cremation will follow the service and the interment will be held at a later date in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8pm.
