Edward L. "Ed" Henry

June 26, 1951 — April 18, 2021

Edward L. “Ed” Henry, age 69, of Mobile, Alabama, and formerly of Stockbridge, Georgia, and Newcomerstown, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, April 18, 2021 in Mobile following a period of declining health.

Born June 25, 1951, in Zanesville, Ohio, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Margaret K. Fordyce Henry. Ed graduated from Cambridge (Ohio) High School in 1969, and was employed by the Norfolk Southern Corporation for nearly 30 years. While he was a resident of Newcomerstown, Ed served as a volunteer firefighter and on the village’s emergency squad. He married Rose Burdett on October 26, 2003, in Lovejoy, Georgia, and the couple shared 17 years of marriage prior to Rose’s passing on March 20, 2021.

Ed was a member of the Stockbridge Assembly of God and was passionate about his work with the church’s food pantry, which was one of the area’s largest - serving greater Atlanta. He was particularly fond of his role in helping law enforcement with the distribution of food to those in need. Throughout his life Ed loved serving and helping others.

Ed enjoyed spending time with his family; he also enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, and following The Ohio State Buckeyes and Pittsburgh Steelers. In keeping with his long career with the railroad, Ed collected HO and N scale trains - and trading cards as well.

Ed will be dearly missed by his children, Tracy (Mark Lamonica) Gleaton of Dover, Ohio, Kelly Offman of Newcomerstown, and Ed (Lauren) Nimitz of Locust Grove, Georgia; his step-children, Jason (Peggy) Gothard of Mobile, and Cassie (Nathan) Dodson of Aurora, Colorado; his grandchildren, Zarik Gleaton, Candace and Dakota Offman, Brice Goff, Bradlie and Bryson Nimitz, Lauren, Abby, Magnus and Avery Gothard, Miles and Zooey Dodson; his brother, John “Jack” (Beverly) Henry; and his nieces and nephews, including Sean Henry, who was very special to him.

Besides his parents and his wife, Rose, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Lane Henry; and his niece, Jonna Henry.

Honoring Ed’s wishes, he was cremated. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, July 10, at 12 p.m., in the Stockbridge Assembly of God. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Ed, please click on Tribute Wall at the top of this page.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Ed’s memory be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
