Edward D. Hamsher

Edward D. Hamsher, 75, of 203 Young Drive N.E., Dover, Ohio died Saturday, November 20, 2004 in Union Hospital following a brief illness.

He devoted his life to education for over 40 years having retired in 1987, as Superintendent of the Dover City Schools. He had also previously served as a teacher, coach, Principal and had formerly been Superintendent of Newcomerstown, and Louisville School systems.

Born July 24, 1929 in Walnut Creek, Ohio, he was the son of the late Milo and Ollie Miller Hamsher.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church at Dover where he held numerous offices and served on many committees within the church. He was currently serving as President of Horizons. He was past president of the Retired Teachers of Tuscarawas County. He was a member of the Louisville Kiwanis, Sugarcreek and Newcomerstown Lions Clubs, and the Dover Rotary Club. He enjoyed public speaking within the community and was a tour guide at Schrock�(TM)s Amish Farm. He also delivered medications for Marlowe�(TM)s Omni Care in Dover. He also loved golf, walking, and staying active and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Ed is survived by his wife, Margaret Banks Hamsher with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage on March 4. He is also survived by four children, Edward (Kristina) Hamsher of East Sparta, Ronald (Denise) Hamsher of Louisville, and Alan (Dana) Hamsher of Canton and Sandra Hamsher of Salt Lake City, Utah; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Meredith, Justin, Jessica, Jennifer, Tanner, Kellon, and Paige Hamsher; four brothers Myron (Erma) Hamsher of Kidron, Reuben (Mabel) Hamsher of Sugarcreek, Robert Hamsher of Sugarcreek and James (Esther) Hamsher of Sugarcreek; two sisters Mary (Robert) Miller of Orrville and Betty (Glen) Martin of Dalton;

Three sisters in law Edith Hamsher of Dover and Norma Hamsher of Sugarcreek and Kathryn Hamsher of Orrville.

Ed was preceded in death by three brothers, Dallas, John, and Thomas Hamsher.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at 11am in the First United Methodist Church at Dover with Rev. Larry Black officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Monday from 4-8 pm and at the church Tuesday from 10-11 am.
