Edna M. Cattabiani

Edna M. Cattabiani, 88, of Dover, died Tuesday, February 8, 2000, in Bethesda Hospital at Zanesville. Born March 5, 1911 at Powhatan Point, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Edward & Mary Hendershot Carpenter. She was a graduate of Powhatan High School and had attended Muskingum College. She returned to Powhatan where she taught for eleven years in the elementary grades. She belonged to the Powhatan Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School classes and sponsored an active youth Epworth League. Edna married A. Lewis Cattabiani and moved to Dover in 1942 where she taught for twenty-five years. Working with the State Department, she started the Special Education classes in the Dover City Schools and later managed a Work-Study program for students in grades 9-12 for twelve years before retiring in 1976. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was also a member of the Woman's Literary Club of Dover, Tuscarawas County Retired Teacher's Association and the Daughter's of the American Revolution. She is survived by her husband, Lewis, with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage August 5, 1999. Other survivors include: a daughter, Linda & Cary White of McConnelsville, OH; granddaughter, Dr. Kristy Zechiel and her husband Dr. Timothy Peters of Dayton; grandson, Chad Zechiel and his wife Marda Welington Zechiel of Columbus; and one great grandson, Devin James Zechiel of Columbus. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Carpenter Nardella Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 12, at 10:30 am in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Joseph Glassner officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call in the funeral home on Friday from 4-7pm.
