Edith "Edie" P. Maurer, 85, of Dundee, Ohio died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in the Park Village Health Care Center at Dover following an extended illness.

She was a retired employee of the former Alsco Anaconda Plant at Sugarcreek where she worked for over thirty years.

Born July 20, 1924 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Ella (Kelly) Lenarz. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Galen Maurer who died on July 3, 2002. In addition, she is preceded by a daughter, Debra Schatzel; two brothers, Robert and Dale Lenarz and two sisters, Maxine and Lillian Lenarz.

Edie attended the Dundee United Methodist Church where she participated in the Ladies Auxiliary. She also attended the Church of New Hope in Dover. Over the years, she was active in the Dundee Sportsman's Club Auxiliary and the Shady Rest Army Navy Auxiliary. She had many interests and hobbies and could often be found square dancing and polka dancing. She loved country music and enjoyed a good game of joss and euchre. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family as well as gardening and canning. She will be remembered for her generosity and was known as "Candy Lady" where she shared her candy with the neighborhood children and others.

She is survived by one daughter, Candy (husband, Pete) Miller of Bolivar; three sons, David (wife, Kay) Maurer of Dundee, Dennis Maurer of Tuscarawas and Greg Maurer of Warsaw; two sisters, Norma Miller of New Philadelphia and Ruth (husband, Dean) McElroy of West Lafayette along with eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great grandchild expected this month.

A celebration of Edie's life will be held Monday, March 8. 2010 at 1:30pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Dan Legg officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Galen in the Dundee Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5pm.
