Edgar W. Kaiser

Edgar W. Kaiser, 83, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, in his home.

Born Jan. 7, 1920, in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Edgar L. and Irene Aegerter Kaiser. Edgar attended school in New Philadelphia, and joined the Ohio National Guard in 1938. When World War II began he served with the U.S. Army�(TM)s 37th and 43rd Divisions, much of that time in the South Pacific.

On Nov. 24, 1946, he married “the girl next door,” Virginia Lawver. The couple loved to travel, fish and camp, and visited Lake Okeechobee annually for many years. Bowling was another of Edgar�(TM)s favorite pastimes.

Edgar was employed by Joy Manufacturing of New Philadelphia as an electrician; he worked there thirty years when he retired in 1982. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Tuscarawas.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, Edgar is survived by a daughter, Joan (Dave) Rennicker of Mineral City; five grandchildren, Shelly Strauss of Dennison, Pam Bair of Dover, Lisa Mathias of New Philadelphia, Cindy (Doran) Mizer of Mineral City, and Tammy (Dusty) Louwerens of the Netherlands; fourteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Anstine of New Philadelphia, and Helen (William) Smiley of Fort Lauderdale, FL; many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Paul Kaiser.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Rev. Donald M. Snow of Calvary Baptist Church, New Philadelphia, officiating. The Tuscarawas post of the VFW will present military honors at the funeral home.
