Edgar L. Barcus

Edgar L. Barcus, 90, of Park Village Dover, Ohio and formerly of Mingo Junction, Ohio and Avon Park, Florida died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 following a brief illness.

Edgar retired in 1979 as a Diesel Mechanic for the Pennsylvania Railroad/Conrail where he worked for 39 years.

Born April 19, 1918 in Mingo Junction, he was the son of the late James E. and Martha B. Mayo Barcus.

He was a member of the Harmony United Methodist Church in Mingo Junction. He attended the Winfield United Methodist Church. He was a Tech Sgt. in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received several Bronze Stars. He was also a member of the F&AM #45 in Steubenville, Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville, Osiris Shrine in Wheeling, West Virginia and the Highland City Shrine Club in Avon Park, Florida.

Edgar was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lou (Day) Barcus who died July 15, 2006. He was also preceded by a son, Rev. James Barcus and a brother, Tom Barcus.

He is survived by his daughters Barbara (Glenn) Knepper of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Virginia "Jenny" Barcus of Dover; three grandchildren, Grant and Scott Knepper and Jennifer Ambs; three great grandchildren, Renee, Allison, and Samantha Knepper.

A funeral service celebrating Edgar's life will be held Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 11am in the Winfield United Methodist Church with Rev. LuAnn Youngman officiating. Military honors will follow the service at the church. Cremation will follow with interment at a later date in the Dover Burial Park. Friends will be received on Friday from 6-8pm at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover and Saturday at the church from 10-11am.
