Earl A. "Sonny" Wiegand, Jr., age 75, of Dover, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Monday, December 21, 2015.
Born March 17, 1940, at Dover, he was a son of the late Earl A. and Jean (Gornek) Wiegand. Earl attended Dover St. Joseph Schools, and was employed for over forty years as a truck driver, having worked independently, and for Edwards Trucking at Strasburg and Coshocton Trucking.
Earl enjoyed being a ham radio operator - his call signs were WD8KKL. He had a life-long interest in airplanes and flight, and obtained his pilot's license. He also liked flying radio-controlled airplanes.
Earl was a social member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and AMVETS, both at New Philadelphia.
Survivors include his wife, Deanna (Fish) Wiegand, whom he married November 15, 1996; his son, Edwin L. Wiegand of Cabot, Arkansas; his daughter, Tianna Fish, also of Cabot; his sisters, Jeanette (Jerry) Hunter of Coshocton, and Diana Wiegand of New Philadelphia; his brothers, Raymond "Tony" (Peggy) Wiegand of Bolivar, Joseph (Patricia) and Tom (Lisa) Wiegand, both of Dover; his former wife, Rose McDonald; his many nieces and nephews; and his cats, of whom he was especially fond.
Besides his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra K. Wiegand; his step-son, Justin Michael Fish; his sister, Dorothy Ann Wiegand; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry and Mary Lou Fish.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover on Tuesday, December 29, 2 4 and 6 8 p.m. A funeral service for Earl will be held Wednesday, December 30, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home, with Pastor Jim Borton of the First Christian Church at New Philadelphia officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Dover Moose Lodge, 490 S.
