Douglas Scott "Woody" Fischer

Douglas Scott "Woody" Fischer, 49, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, in Union Hospital, Dover. Woody's death was due to adenocarcinoma, which was diagnosed only a short time ago.

Born, September 3, 1959, in Dover, he was a son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Yvonne Anderson Fischer. Woody graduated from Dover High School in 1978, and was the owner and operator of E.P. Chemicals at New Philadelphia, a provider of biodegradable lubricants to industry. He was a devoted father and grandfather, who enjoyed good times with family and friends. Woody liked to go fishing, which he did at every opportunity, and was a great sports fan, who was especially fond of the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cleveland teams - the Cavaliers, Indians and Browns.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Haney of New Philadelphia, and Stacy Fischer of Strasburg; a son, Steven Scott Wilson Fischer of Dover; a step-son, Adam Reynolds, also of Dover; a grandson, Bryce Haney; three sisters, Sherry Fischer of Indian Land, SC, Pam (Rick) Ruby of Charlotte, NC, and Janet Schroder of Florence, KY; a brother, Blake (Judy) Fischer of Aurora; a sister-in-law, Linda Fischer of Poland, OH; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Herman of Athens; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Woody was preceded in death by a sister, Carole Herman, and a brother, Craig Fischer.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 30, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Dr. Steven R. Bailey of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia officiating. Immediately following the service, the family will host a lunch in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
