Dorothy Rose Young

Dorothy Rose Young, 87, of Coshocton, and a former Dover resident, passed away Monday, Apr. 26, 2010, in Autumn Healthcare, Coshocton, with her loving family around her.

Born in New Philadelphia on Apr. 16, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Orin and Lucille O'Boyle Stauffer. Dorothy graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1941, and was later fond of telling how she had Woody Hayes as a teacher. She married the love of her life, Raymond E. Young, on Oct. 3, 1948; the couple reared two children and shared fifty-seven wonderful years together before Raymond's passing in 2005. Dorothy was employed by Buehler's in Dover for many years, retiring in 1976. Shortly thereafter, she and Raymond relocated to Clearwater, FL, where they owned and operated Dor-Ray Apartments. In 2002 they returned to Ohio and made their home in Coshocton.

Dorothy was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover. She adored her family, enjoyed reading and working crossword and other word puzzles.

Survivors include a daughter, Laura Jo Hixson of Knoxville, TN; a son, Raymond E. (Kathy) Young II of Coshocton; six grandchildren, Scott Hixson of New Port Richey, FL, Randy Hixson, and Holly Hixson of Knoxville, Kelle (Denny) Kiner of Loudonville, SSG Raymond E. (fiance, Jennifer Holsclaw) Young III serving with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, and Teri (Steve) Spain of Newark; six great-grandchildren, Brandon and Kayla Hixson of Gainesville, FL, Taryn and Emma VanAtta of Loudonville, and Cameron and Kennedy Kiner of Cross Lanes, WV; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Gladys (Walter) Stotzer of Mineral City, and Margene (Pete) Hicks of Sugarcreek; brother-in-law, John (Ruth) Young of Ragersville.

In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband, Raymond, Dorothy was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd and Emma Young.

A funeral service for Dorothy will be held Thursday, Apr. 29, at 11 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Michael W. Lowry officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
