Dorothy Lucille Fetters

Dorothy Lucille “Cele” Fetters, 99, a resident of Strasburg, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2005. The date of her death shares special meaning for her family, as April 9 was also the birthday of her late husband William P. Fetters.

Born January 3, 1906 at Strasburg, she was the daughter of the late George & Celia Danner Geckler.

Cele was a homemaker for most of her life but answered the call to serve as a “Rosie the Riveter” with Republic Steel during World War II.

She was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg where she blended her love for the church and her talented voice into 55 years of memories and friendships while singing in the church choir. She had varied interests from baking pies to playing the organ and playing cards. She had also been a member of the Pythian Sisters of Strasburg.

Survivors include: two nieces, Beverly Rieger of Strasburg and Ann Bixler of Atlanta, GA; three great nieces, Lynn (Glen) Fisher of Strasburg, Kim Draime of Massillon and Debbie Jacoby of Atlanta, GA; a great nephew, Michael (Bonnie) Rieger of Canton; two great-great nieces, Erika Oliger of Canton and Julie Draime of Massillon; three great-great nephews, Matthew Bitikofer of Strasburg, Joshua (Stacy) Bitikofer of Strasburg and Patrick Draime of Canton; a great-great-great niece, Tessa Lynn Bitikofer of Strasburg; two great-great-great nephews, Zackary Oliger of Canton and Logan Bitikofer of New Philadelphia.

In addition to her parents and husband, Cele was preceded in death by: a sister, Helen Bixler Savage; two brothers, Donald “Humpty” Geckler and Glenn Geckler; nephew Charles “Dick” Bixler; and a great nephew David Bixler.

Cele�(TM)s body will be cremated through the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Strasburg. Her life will be celebrated in a public graveside service on Friday, April 15 at 3:00 p.m. in Strasburg�(TM)s Grandview Union Cemetery.
