Dorothy A. Hoover

Dorothy A. Hoover, 89, of Strasburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, in Union Hospital, Dover, following a period of declining health.

Born, Feb. 27, 1919, in Strasburg, she was the daughter of the late Louis
and Maude Studer Kemmerly. Dorothy graduated from Strasburg High School,
and, on Oct. 8, 1938, married Richard A. Hoover. Dorothy was proud of her
family, always putting her role as wife, mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother first. Her other passions included perennial flower
gardening, painting ceramics and shopping.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of St. John United Church of Christ in
Strasburg, and the church's Seasoned Seniors group. She delivered Meals
on Wheels for several years, and was the last surviving member of the
N.K.W. (Nobody Knows What) Card Club, which was started during the Second
World War.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Hoover of Strasburg; two grandchildren, Kathy (Michael) Dakota of Bath, and Quinn (Roberta) Miller of Cuyahoga Falls; six great-grandchildren, Avery, Noah, Wyatt, Devin, Samantha and Michael; many other loving, supporting family members; and her beloved cat, Molly.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, on Mar. 18, 1997, and by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Richard Miller.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, at 10:30 a.m., in St. John United Church of Christ, 516 N. Wooster Ave., Strasburg, with Rev. Gary R. Friend officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Union Cemetery, Strasburg. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the church hall. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 232 N. Wooster Ave., Strasburg, on Friday, Aug. 8, 6 8 p.m., and on Saturday, 10 10:30 a.m. at the church.
