Doris V. Couts, 83, of the Walnut Hills Retirement Home and formerly of Dover Avenue, Dover, Ohio died Friday, December 10, 1999 in her residence following a brief illness.

Doris attended Muskingum College and Edinburgh University in Scotland.  She served in the Womens Army Corp from 1944-46.  She had worked at New Philadelphia Public Library before and after military service.  In 1947, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked in law libraries at the U.S. Dept. of Army, office of General Council, office of Army Quarter Master General, and U.S. Post Office Dept. Library where she retired in April, 1972.  She later worked at the Tuscarawas County Law Library.

Born December 27, 1915 in Salesville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late William Lloyd and Wilna I. Williams Couts.

She was a member of the Ryland Epworth United Methodist Church in Washington  D.C.

She is survived by two sisters  Pauline (Doyle) Merrick of Navarre and Ruth (Robert) McVann of Kissimmee, Fla.

Two Brothers  W. Dean (Tisa) Couts of New Philadelphia and Norm (Dora Lee) Couts of Strasburg and 12 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Lloyd Jr. and Robert L. Couts.
