Doris Gwen Mugridge

March 9, 1930 — January 10, 2003

Miss Doris Gwen Mugridge, 72 of Dover and formerly of Strasburg, died Friday, January 10, 2003 in Union Hospital after a short illness.

She retired in 1995 from Zimmer Patient Care where she had worked as a secretary for 27 years. She was the office computer before such a thing was invented, and was admired by her co-workers for her great memory and instant recall of dates and important information.

Born March 9, 1930 at Johnstown, PA, she was daughter of the late James T. & Mary R. Reese Mugridge.

Gwen was a longtime, active member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, and had been the Kindergarten Sunday school teacher since 1957.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Cypress Lodge #540.

Gwen was a favorite of her many nieces and nephews and fondly thought of them as her children. She also had an amazing love of animals, especially cats. Mosey & Sister will be forever close to her heart.

She is survived by a brother James Robert Mugridge of Pittsburgh, PA, a sister, Ruth Snodgrass of Dover and a sister-in-law Esther Mugridge of Tempe, AZ.

Other survivors include: eight nieces; Marcy Zeppernick of Deerfield, OH, Cheryl Fanning of Tucson, AZ, Sharon (Mark) Johnson of Goosecreek, SC, Nancy Mugridge of Long Beach, CA, Denise Spencer of Glenshaw, PA, Rebecca Mugridge of Boalsburg, PA, Denice McFarland of Fort Pierce, FL and Mary (Matt) Buckley of Elida, OH, five nephews; James Greig of Ravenna, Robert (Kathy) Greig of Holsopple, PA, James (Cyndi) Mugridge of Globe, AZ, Paul (Claire) Mugridge of Pearland, TX and David Mugridge of Pittsburg, PA, 13 great nieces and nephews and 4 great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by a brother; John Mugridge, and two sisters; Elizabeth Greig and Jeanne McFarland.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 14, at 1:30pm in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Steven Court and Pastor William J. Bullock officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery in Strasburg. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Strasburg on Monday from 5-8pm. Eastern Star service will be held at 4:45pm.
