Doris A. Hootman

Doris A. Hootman, 79, formerly of Froman Hill Rd. N.E., Dover died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover following an extended illness.

Doris spent many years as a caregiver for several area families.

Born Nov. 13, 1932 in Beach City, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Berniece (Bose) Wallick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of 60 years, Gene T. Hootman who died Feb. 12, 2010 and two brothers, Don and Gene Wallick.

Doris was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Bolivar and belonged to the Women's Fellowship and was a Sunday schoolteacher for over 30 years. She will be remembered as an excellent baker having won the pie baking contest at the fair eight times. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting antiques. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family including her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed by her three children Becky (Greg) Demattio and Jeff (Jill) Hootman both of Dover and Gail (Mark) Harshbarger of Akron; seven grandchildren Dirk (Tracey) Symons, Brandon (Stacey) Symons, Jeff and Katie Hootman, Emily (Jory) Swihart, Hillary and Chase Harshbarger; seven great grandchildren, Tatum, Calli, Cole, Alyssa, Piper, Adelie, and McCall Symons; a brother Robert (Jeanette) Wallick of Ocoee, Florida and a sister, Janet (Ken) Murphy of Dover.

Rev. Donald Rice will officiate funeral services celebrating Doris' life on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 beginning at 1pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover. Following the service, she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Gene at the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00am to 1pm at the funeral home.
