Donald E. Stein, 76, a longtime resident of Atwood Glens, died peacefully Friday, March 18, 2005 in his home.

For more than 50 years, he was the owner operator of Stein Construction.

Born July 18, 1928 at Dover, he was the son of the late Clarence and Minnie Lang Stein.

Don was the consummate outdoorsman. He was an avid turkey and deer hunter who especially enjoyed spending time with his son camping at Millbrook in Stark, New Hampshire. He was a life member of the Tusco Gun Club, National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association.

He was also a life member of the New Philadelphia Elks, member of the Tadmor Shrine, Masonic Lodge #177, and the Atwood Yacht Club.

Don honorably served his country as a paratrooper in the Army�(TM)s 11th Airborne Division, and was a member of the New Phila. VFW.

His family always came first. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and always took pride in their accomplishments in hockey and figure skating.

On January 5, Don lost his best friend with the passing of his loving wife of 56 years, Carolyn Bair Stein. The two married on November 28, 1948.

Surviving family members include: a son, Greg Stein and his companion, Barb Pickard of Pepperell, MA; a daughter, Cheryl (Mark) Ritenour of Atwood Glens, two grandsons, Alexander and Christopher Stein of Tewksbury, MA; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ritenour of Atwood Glens; eight brothers, Kenneth, Raymond, David, Gene, Wayne, Glen “Boots”, Charles, and James; three sisters, Shirley Stillion, Twila Polen and Betty Emery.

He will also be missed by the many dear friends and neighbors who always felt welcomed in the Stein home.

In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by: two brothers, Adrian and Richard Stein; and a sister, Minnie Stein.

In keeping with his wishes, Don�(TM)s body will be cremated through the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover. His ashes, along with his wife's, will be scattered together at Millbrook, in the White Mountains of Stark, New Hampshire.

A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, March 22, in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover, with Rev. Glen Shedlock officiating. The ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial video tribute of Don & Carolyn�(TM)s lives. A meal will be served immediately following the ceremony.

Friends are invited to visit with the family in the Monarch Center on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m.
