Donald E. Prosser

November 28, 1924 — May 29, 2006

Donald E. Prosser, 81, of Dover, died Monday, May 29, 2006 after a courageous 2-½ year battle with cancer.

Born November 28, 1924 at Dover, he was the son of the late William & Myrtle Croft Prosser.

He retired from Union Camp with more than 40 years of service to the company. He was skilled in a variety of areas and was a real jack-of-all-trades who was entrusted with fixing just about everything around the plant.

Donald was a big fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, and was especially fond of legendary football coach Woody Hayes. Of course it helped that the two formed a bond of friendship and respect while he played for Hayes when the coach was getting his first chance to lead a football team at New Philadelphia High School.

He was an avid golfer and golfed in several leagues over the years. He also loved playing Bingo! - As many as three nights a week while he was working, and seemingly “all of the time” after he retired. He made a great many friends at area Bingo halls and always knew how to charm his way into someone preparing one of his favorite dishes for him while he played.

Donald was blessed with a wonderful wife of 62 years, Thelma M. Borden Prosser, who survives.

Other surviving family members include: a daughter, Sharon (Bruce) Taylor of New Philadelphia; son, Paul David (Cathy) Prosser of Canton; seven grandchildren, Mike (Eileen) Taylor, Amy (Ned) Nicholson, Paul (Heather) May, Michell (Mark) Hoover, Jennifer (Eric) Neitz, Shannon (Matthew) DiLauro, and Shandra Stewart; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Carol (Jim) Carr; many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by: a daughter, Marsha Porter; sisters, Betty Babinski and Mildred Eddleman, and brothers Thomas and Ernest Prosser.

A funeral that celebrates Donald(TM)s life will be conducted Thursday, June 1, at 2:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. The Rev. Glen Shedlock will officiate.
