Deborah L. Rinderknecht

Deborah L. Rinderknecht, age 66, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, passed away there Sunday October 3, 2021, from complications following back surgery.

Born May 8, 1955, in Cleveland, she was a daughter of Suzanne Zollar Rinderknecht of Dover, and the late John R. Rinderknecht. Deborah graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, and went on to earn her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in library science from Kent State University, and later earned her master’s degree in economics from The Ohio State University.

Her career included employment at The Ohio State University, Stephen F. Austin University in Texas, Virginia Commonwealth University, The University of Tennessee - Knoxville, University of Florida, University of Nebraska and the University of Pittsburgh - Johnstown, where she was director of the library.

Deborah had many interests, which included genealogy, history and the Moravian Church - her ancestors were early Moravian settlers of Dover coming from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She loved to read, listen to music, enjoyed antiques and travel - visiting many historical sites. Additionally she liked to embroider and loved the cats with whom she shared her life throughout the years.

Besides her mother, Suzanne, Deborah is survived by her sister, Joan (Paul) Hill of Dover; her long-time companion, Jeff Lowry; her sister-in-law, Janine Rinderknecht; her aunts, Jane Schooff and Charlene Zollar; and her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Stephen and Alan Rinderknecht.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 30, in Dover Burial Park; Pastor John B. Wallace of Dover First Moravian Church will officiate.

The family suggests that contributions in Deborah’s memory be made to Dover First Moravian Church, 319 N. Walnut St., Dover, Ohio 44622.
