Dean W. Brick, 87, of Dover passed away peacefully early Friday morning, September 21, 2012 in the New Dawn Health Care Center lovingly surrounded by his family. He had fought complications from Black Lung Disease for many years.

Born Sept. 23, 1924 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, he was the son of the late Carrie Huffman Gibbs and Lawrence Brick. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Gordon Brick and brother in law, Chester Truman.

Dean retired in 1972 from Midvale Coal Company following twenty years of service as a shuttle operator.

He was a life member of the Dover Moose and Eagles Lodges, the Dover and New Philadelphia VFW and a sixty year member of the United Mineworkers Union. He rarely missed his morning cups of coffee with his friends and spent many hours fishing on Lake Erie and other area lakes. He proudly served his country in the US Army (military police) during World War II.

He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife Wilma (Truman) Brick with whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage on June 27; three daughters Vikki Brick (Bret Preston), Shari (Mick) Klingler, and Shelly Brick all of New Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Joshua (Brittney) Rennicker and Jessica (Jeremiah) Widmer; four great grandchildren; a sister, Babs (Michael) Thomas Moore of Dover; two sisters in law, Rosalie Brick of Lawrence, Georgia and Jeanie Truman of Dover; his canine companion, Axel along with several nieces and nephews.

At Dean's request, there will be no public funeral or calling hours. Cremation will take place and he will be laid to rest privately at the Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia.
