Darlene R. Hamlin

November 3, 1948 — December 19, 2020

Darlene R. Hamlin, age 72, of New Philadelphia, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020, in Community Hospice’s Truman House from complications following a stroke earlier this year.

Born November 3, 1948, in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Irvin and Thelma McCue Sergent. Darlene graduated from Dover High School in 1966, and later, on December 9, 1967, married Terry Hamlin, who survives. Foremost, Darlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Being a grandmother and great-grandmother were roles she especially enjoyed. She was employed by the New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia, and Sugarcreek IGA from which she retired. Darlene liked going for long automobile rides with Terry, playing Scrabble and watching the birds and other wildlife around her home.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Terry; her children, Terry Lynn (Myra) Hamlin, Michelle Renee (Troy) Wright, and Kenny (fiancee, Kristy Gackenbach) Hamlin; her grandchildren, Mathew, Kylee, Dakota, Dalton, Zachary, Christian, Nicholas, Kayden, Brooklyn, Blake and Lucas; her ten great-grandchildren; her sister, Linda (Ken) Beamer; her brother, Bud (Marilyn) Sergeant; and her nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by her sister Kay Sergent.

Due to the surge in the COVID-19 pandemic, Darlene’s family will gather privately to say goodbye. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Darlene, please visit the Obituaries link on the Toland-Herzig website.

The family suggests that contributions in her memory be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
