Dan Lansberry

October 1, 1958 — January 5, 2010

Dan Lansberry, 51, of Dover, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, in Brunswick, GA, from an apparent heart attack while traveling to the funeral services of his mother-in-law, Margaret "Kathy" Easlick in Florida.

Born Oct. 1, 1958 in Beaver Falls, PA, he was a son of Paul "Jack" Lansberry of Beaver Falls, and the late Patricia Anne Craig Lansberry. Dan attended Blackhawk High School, graduating in 1977. While there, he ran track and cross-country, played basketball and was co-editor of the school newspaper. Dan scored in the top 2% of the nation on his PSAT test.

He continued his education at Penn State University, majoring in Metallurgy. After graduation in 1981, Dan went to work in the steel industry. He was employed by Greer Steel in Dover for thirteen years, and for the last nine years, by WCI Steel (now Seversal North America). Dan enjoyed working on specialty steel and was Senior Engineer - Special Products.

Since June of 2009, Dan had worked in Dearborn, MI coming home to Dover on weekends, at which time he'd host family barbecues and get "doggie therapy" from his "grand-dogs." Dan enjoyed socializing and "everybody knew his name."

Dan was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. He believed in prayer, sending up prayer for friends and family, and exchanging Bible verses. He always dropped donations in Salvation Army kettles, purchased gifts for Share-a-Christmas and donated to the Greater Dover-New Philadelphia Food Pantry. Dan also gave of his time generously, volunteering as a Dover Girl's Softball coach, as a timer for Dover Middle School Track and as a scorekeeper for Dover Cross Country.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Connie Easlick Lansberry, whom he married on May 25, 1985; his daughters, Tricia Lansberry and Kathie (fiance, Cory Ayers) Lansberry, both of Dover; his step-mother (whom he called "Mom"), Thora Martella Lansberry, his sisters, Rebecca "Becky" (Warren) Simons and Trisha Lansberry, and his brother, Joseph Lansberry, all of Beaver County, PA.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m., in Broadway United Methodist Church, 120 Church Ave. S.E., New Philadelphia, with Pastor Bill Sowers officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Friday, Jan. 15, 5 - 8 p.m., and on Saturday, 10 - 11 a.m. at the church. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Dan, please visit the funeral home's Web site and click on Obituaries.
