Dale G. Yoss

August 12, 1921 — February 2, 2010

Dale G. Yoss, 88, of the Walnut Hills Nursing Home in Walnut Creek went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 2, 2010 following a brief illness. He was a longtime resident of Dover.

Born August 12, 1921 in Dover, Ohio, he was the son of the late Jesse J. and Bessie (Ruble) Yoss.

Dale was a 1939 graduate of Dover High School. He enlisted in the service on July 24, 1942 with the U.S. Navy. He served 39 months in the Navy during World War II as a signalman with 31 months overseas duty. He was awarded a diploma by the French authorities to those American veterans of the Second World War who liberated France and, in doing so, changed the history of the 20th century.

He was employed by Amko Service Company Dover Cryogenics retiring after 20 years of service in 1987. Previously he was employed by a local paint and body shop for 17 years.

Dale attended Newpointe Community Church for several years and prior to that he was an active member of the Dover Foursquare Gospel Church for many years fulfilling many duties. He was also a longtime member of the Dover American Legion where he performed with the former Drum and Bugle Corp. He was also a member of the 40 et 8 Voiture #117.

He loved to garden and after retirement took up the hobby of making standing stained glass angels and lamps. He also loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Lela.

Dale will be greatly missed by his children, son and daughter in law Scott (Carol) Yoss of New Philadelphia and daughter and son in law, Lisa (Randy) Notz of Dover; grandchildren, Randa (Mike) Miller of Dalton, Rachel (Jonathan) Powell of Canton and Ryan (Carla) Yoss of Sugarcreek; three great grandchildren Melanie, Keri, and Cameron all of Dalton along with a sister, Ruby Burky of New Philadelphia and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lela H. Yoss on March 12, 2007 following 63 years of marriage and a sister, Virginia Hewitt.

A funeral service celebrating Dale's life will be held Monday, February 8, 2010 at 1:30pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastors Chad Stutzman and Ron May officiating. Interment will follow at the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct graveside military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.
