Dale E. Lenarz

Dale E. Lenarz, 82, of Dover, died Friday, July 10, 2009, in Union Hospital, following a long illness.

Born, December 2, 1926, in Dover, he was a son of the late Jesse and Ella Kelly Lenarz. Dale graduated from Dover High School in 1944, and entered the United States Navy, serving with the Seabees during the Second World War. After the war, Dale was employed by the Marlite Corporation, where he worked for forty-one years, retiring in 1988. In addition to his job at Marlite, Dale, being a hard-worker, painted houses for some fifty years.

He was a member of the Dover Bible Church, the Dover Eagles Lodge, and a life member of the Zoar Road Gun Club �" where he was known for his culinary talents.

Dale enjoyed gardening, raising and selling thousands of tomato and pepper plants every year. He also planted a large garden annually, growing a variety of vegetables for his own use and for family and friends. He liked to hunt rabbits, squirrel, and deer, as well as catching turtles (where he showed true bravery). Dale was very fond of the many beagles he kept for hunting over the years.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Walker of Dover, and Patty (friend, Ada Miller) Lenarz of Wilmot; three sons, Stephen (Mary) Lenarz and Jerry (Kathy) Lenarz, both of Dover, and Ronald (Mary) Lenarz of Strasburg; seven grandchildren, Tim (Angie) Fortney, Brian Lenarz, Miranda Fortney, Samuel (Lisa) Lenarz, Daniel, Laura and Lindsey Lenarz; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth (Dean) McElroy of West Lafayette, Edith Maurer of Dover, and Norma Miller of New Philadelphia; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his beloved wife of forty-nine years, Vera May Boley Lenarz in 1996; a son-in-law, Pat Walker; two sisters, Lillian and Maxine Lenarz; and a brother, Robert Lenarz.

A funeral service will be held Monday, July 13, at 10:30 a.m, in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Ed Scaglione officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, where military honors will be provided by the Dover post of the V.F.W. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
