Clyde W. "Bill" Hawk

Clyde W. “Bill” Hawk Jr., age 69, of Dover, passed away January 1, 2019, in Dover’s Hennis Care & Assisted Living Centre; Bill had battled Parkinson’s disease for some years.

Born December 24, 1949, in Dover, he was the son of the late Clyde W. Sr. and Letha Briggs Hawk. Bill attended Dover High School where he was a standout football and baseball player – a fullback on the undefeated 1967 Tornadoes football team. He graduated in 1968, and went on to attend Capital University where he played football as well, and was a member of Capital’s 1970 Stagg Bowl championship team – at that time, the NCAA West Regional champions. Bill left Capital and served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Akron. He worked many years for the Seven-Up Bottling Co., Midvale, and later retired from the Hanhart Agency in Dover.

Bill enjoyed golf and following Dover sports as well as Ohio State. He coached and served as commissioner for Dover Youth Baseball. He will be especially remembered for his great sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Carothers Hawk, whom he married on August 21, 2004; his children, Sarah (John) Wolfe and Jake Hawk, both of Dover; his step-daughter, Angel (Chris) Carothers Perkins of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Jack and Jamey Wolfe, Blane (Patti) Neighbor, Brandon and Bryce Abner, and Kayla Perkins; his sisters, Brenda Lyons of Dover and Barbara (Rob) Byrne of Nevada (Ohio); his several nieces and nephews, including Amy (Terry) Wells, Michelle Bichsel and Marshall (Kara) Byrne.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Friday, January 4, 6 – 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 5, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home; Pastor John B. Wallace of the First Moravian Church in Dover will officiate. Bill’s cremated remains will be placed in the columbaria at Dover Burial Park. Following the service, there will be a lunch in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.

The family suggests that contributions in Bill’s memory be made to the Dover Education Foundation, c/o Dover City Schools, P.O. Box 190, Dover, Ohio 44622.
