Clarence A. Gill

Clarence A. Gill, 85, of Dover, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday afternoon, Mar. 31, 2004. Clarence passed away at home in his favorite chair from complications of congestive heart failure.

Born June 5, 1918, in Eva, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Charlie and Anna McGill Gill. Ineligible for military service because of a hearing problem, Clarence wanted to serve his country in some way, so he went to work for Weirton Steel Company manufacturing steel for the war effort. In Weirton, a co-worker introduced him to his sister, Naomi Byard. Clarence and Naomi courted, and were married on July 27, 1945, in Weirton. They moved to Ohio in the early 1950�(TM)s when Clarence took a job with Republic Steel Corporation, Massillon. He retired from Republic in 1983 following thirty years of service.

Clarence was a member of the Believers�(TM) Assembly Church, Beach City. He was a devoted family man, who enjoyed gardening, working on his lawn and reading his Bible.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Naomi; a daughter and son-in-law, Fay and Leo Tressell of Dundee; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Carolyn Gill of Beach City. Clarence was the proud grandpa of six: Angel (nee, Damron) and her husband George Herbert of Port Washington, Tony Damron of Logan, Jason and his wife, Melissa Gill, Jimmy and wife Katy Gill, and Jessica Gill, all of Beach City. Clarence is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Lacey, Brooke, Jake, Noah and Luke, who will all miss him very much; a sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Ralph McCullough, and a sister Pearl Gill, all of Smithville, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rev. Jennifer Gill, and a sister, Violet Richards.

A funeral service celebrating Clarence�(TM)s life will be held Saturday, Apr. 3, at 1 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover. Pastor Gene Cooper of the Believer�(TM)s Assembly will officiate. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery, Beach City. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
