C. Joe Manning

Claude "Joe" Manning, 66, of Dover, Ohio died Wednesday, March 17, 2010 in Union Hospital at Dover following an extended illness.

Born January 10, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia, he was the son of the late James E. and Regina (Fantone) Manning.

Joe was a retired employee of Kimble Mixer Company in New Philadelphia. He also worked as a master painter for many years at AMKO Dover Cryogenics in Dover.

He proudly his served his country in the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam and Germany. He was also in the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the Dover VFW. He was a fan of Elvis Presley.

Joe will be remembered as an avid Star Trek enthusiast where he often portrayed Klingon. He organized the annual Star Trek Camp Dover Peace Conference for several years. He was responsible for bringing to the area many Hollywood entertainers to the conference including Robin Curtis and Robert O'Reilly.

Joe is survived by his wife Judy (Ulrich) Manning with whom he would have celebrated 23 years of marriage this July 8; He is also survived by nine children including Mike (Carol) Johnson and John (Melonie) Johnson both of Phenix City, Alabama, Dennis (Nancy) Johnson of Dover, Darlynn (Mike) Hickman of Dellroy, Alvin (Sonya) Manning of Norfolk, Virginia, Honey (Morris) Walker of King George, Virginia, Jody Manning of Boston, Mass., Patty Davis and fianc David Price of New Philadelphia, and Wendy Daley of the home; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a sister, Patsy Wise of Virginia Beach, Va., three brothers in law, Ray, John, and Gene Ulrich along with many nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.

Joe was preceded in death by a brother, James Manning and a brother in law, George Wise.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Chad Stutzman officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8pm and Saturday from 10 am until the time of services.
