Byron D. "Bud" Ball, 85, of Dover died Sunday, November 13, 2011 in his home lovingly surrounded by his family following an extended illness.

Bud retired in 1991 from Union Camp Corporation (now Arizona Chemical) following 41 years of service.

Born September 26, 1926 in Uhrichsville, Ohio, he was the son of the late David and Frieda (Norris) Ball.

Bud was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover and was a life member of the National Rifle Association, Tusco Rifle Club, Zoar Road Gun Club, and was a member of the former Dover Amvets and Dover VFW. He was a founding member of the United Sportsman Association where he was active in the 1970's.

He was a 1944 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. After graduating, he proudly served his country as a Tech Sgt. in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was an avid outdoorsman having enjoyed boating, fishing, and camping on Lake Erie, Atwood Lake, and Salt Fork with his children and grandchildren and was a lifelong deer hunter.

He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife Florence M. (Oddi) Ball with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage this past July 12; three children David Ball, Joe (Jean) Ball and Cathy Harper all of Dover; grandchildren Mike Ball of Los Angeles, California, Angela (Jamie) Dixon of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Marissa Ball of Dover; great grandchildren Fenix Bergamo-Ball of Southington, CT and Gianna Dixon of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.; a sister, Jane Baker of Uhrichsville, OH; sister in law and brother in law, Netta and William English of Dover; his beloved and faithful canine companion, Bella and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Gina Harper, sister, Nita Dyson, his father and mother in law Charles and Olga Oddi, and his brother in law, Joe Oddi.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 at 10:30 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover with Fr. Matt Hoover and Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday from 5-8pm and Friday from 9:30 10:15a.m. A Rosary service will be held Thursday at 7:45 pm.
