Betty Mae Wigfield

Betty Mae Wigfield, 83, of Dover, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008.

She was born August 5, 1924 at York Township, the daughter of the late Jesse & Helen Ulrich Sherer.

A 1942 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, she spent the greater part of her life as a homemaker. Betty did though work for a time with the Endres rose farm at New Philadelphia.

She was a longtime member of the Jerusalem Church and had been active in both the Quilting and Rebecca circles. She also served the church as custodian for a time, and was involved with AARP. Talented with her hands, Betty enjoyed crocheting and ceramics. She also enjoyed being outdoors, and didn't even mind fishing as long as someone baited her hook.

Her husband, Robert E Wigfield, preceded her in death on July 20, 1999.

Surviving family members include: a son, Dave (Martha) Wigfield of New Philadelphia; daughter, Connie (Doug) Troyer of Dover; a brother, Jesse (Mary) Sherer of Stone Creek; two grandchildren, Troy (Christina) Wigfield of New Philadelphia and Dawn Troyer of Dover along with her fianc Jeff Clark of New Philadelphia; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by: a stillborn son, Marvin James; a sister, Mary Ellwood; and two half-brothers, Ralph & Richard Demuth.

The Rev. Dr. Terry Downin will officiate a service that celebrates Betty's life on Saturday, June 28, at 11:00 a.m. in Jerusalem Church at New Philadelphia. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Immediately after the burial, a meal will be held for family and friends in the church social hall.

Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Phila., on Friday from 5-8 p.m.

The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Jerusalem Church Building Fund, 1417 Stonecreek Rd., SW, New Philadelphia.
