Betty J. Huffman

Betty J. Belknap Huffman, age 87, of Dover, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012.

Born June 8, 1924, in Rising Fawn, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Russell Zutervan and Ercelene Hall Belknap. Betty was a long-time educator, having taught in Zoar, Bolivar and Dover. She retired in 1991 as Executive Director of the Tuscarawas County Easter Seal Society.

Betty was an active member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at Dover, where she served as a Deacon, was Assistant Executive Director of Church Council, taught Catechism, was a member and the first President of the WELCA Group, and was a former member of the Fred Haman Circle. She was an honored recipient of Grace Church's Founder's Day Award.

Additionally, Betty was a past Worthy Matron of Bolivar Chapter No. 368 Order of the Eastern Star, and member and past President of Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International an honorary society for women educators. Betty also served as President of "Trumpet in the Land."

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Cynthia A. Huffman of Dover; her granddaughter and her husband, Sara J. Huffman-Kim and Steven S. Kim of Columbus; her grandson, Andrew J. Huffman, also of Columbus.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Forrest W. "Joe" Huffman; an infant brother; and a sister, Myrtle Miller.

Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover on Friday, June 8, 6 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 9, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Dr. William C. Haggis, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Fort Laurens Cemetery, Bolivar. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center at Dover.
