Bernice E. Lineberger

Bernice E. Lineberger, 85, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, in Schoenbrunn Healthcare following a long illness.

Born May 14, 1923, in Dutch Valley, Clay Twp., Tuscarawas Co., she was a daughter of the late John I. and Hazel F. Meldrum Mahaffey. Bernice attended Uhrichsville High School, and was employed for thirty-five years by the General Electric Co., Dover, retiring in 1985 as a quality control inspector.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, New Philadelphia, as well as the Ladies of the Moose also of New Philadelphia, and the Midvale V.F.W. Auxiliary. One of Bernice's favorite weekend activities was going dancing with her husband. She also enjoyed traveling, having visited nearly every state in the union.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Lineberger, whom she married on May 4, 1973; three grandchildren, Catherine L. Black and Penny R. Stucky, both of New Philadelphia, and Robert A. (Christine) Monte of Chesterfield, MO; six great-grandchildren, Anthony R. Weimer, Alexis B. and Adam Z. Black, Marissa A. and Cody J. Stucky, and Lauren G. Monte; a sister, Alberta Cox of New Philadelphia; son-in-law, William A. Monte; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Dean Baldwin, in 1968; two daughters, Geraldine F. Baldwin Monte and Penny R. Baldwin; a sister, Betty Ford; and three brothers, Raymond, Walter and Ernest "Skip" Mahaffey.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Aug. 4, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
