Antoinette Cercone

Antoinette "Tonetta" Cercone, 94, of Dover died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Union Hospital.

Born August 28, 1915 she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Clementina Sansotta Frank. Tonetta was also preceded in death by her husband, Palmerino "Pammy" Cercone who died on October 19, 2001; son, Ron Cercone; brother, Bruno Frank; son in law, Carl Vesco; grandson, Carl John Vesco; granddaughter, Sheila Cercone; sister and brother in law, Carmella and Joseph Pace; brothers and sisters in law, Ralph Javens, Charles Greco, Ross Rondinella, Lou Cercone, Marguerite and Frank Conidi, Ermine and Pete Monticelli and Clara Casimir.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, the Senior Group, Steel Workers Senior Citizens and the Tuscarawas County Italian American Club. Tonetta was a fantastic baker and was well known for her cakes, especially her wedding cakes. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and looked forward to the summer months when she would take weekly pontoon rides with Rick and Sheila and their family. When Tonetta wasn't taking care of her family or baking she enjoyed playing cards with her friends, making crafts or just tending to her flowers. Tonetta and Pammy took great pride in being the Host and Hostess for the Italian American Festival in 1994.

A wonderful and loving mother and grandmother, Tonetta will be sadly missed by her daughter, Betty Vesco of New Philadelphia; sons, Rick (wife, Sheila) Cercone of Atwood Lake and Ralph Cercone of New Philadelphia; sisters, Josephine Javens and Catherine Greco both of Dover; grandchildren, Jerry Vesco of New Philadelphia, Annette (Michael) Sweet of Bolivar, Renee (Brian) Hall of Hilliard, Rick (Melanie) Cercone of Dover, Lisa (Tim) Arnold of Green and Michelle (Leif) Erickson of Green; 12 great grandchildren; sisters in law, Margaret Galbraith, Viola (Jacob) Vierheller and Joanne Rondinella all of Dover; brothers in law, Anthony (Irene) Cercone, Vincent (Evelyn) Rondinella, Ted (Mary) Rondinella all of Dover and Reynolds Casimir of Dennison.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. Matt Hoover and Fr. Ed Keck officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover on Monday from 6-8 pm with Christian Wake services starting at 8.
