William G. "Billy" Hoffman

September 7, 1930 — May 11, 2018

William G. “Billy” Hoffman, age 87, of New Philadelphia, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018, in Park Village Southside.

Born September 7, 1930, in Uniontown, Ohio, he was a son of the late William C. and Lena L. Miller Hoffman, Billy graduated in 1948 from Stone Creek High School where he boasted that he was in the top ten of his class, but then there were only ten in his class. He served honorably in the United States Army as a medic during the Korean War with the 10th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division. Following his discharge, Billy attended Akron Barber College becoming a licensed barber. He later worked as a union carpenter, and retired as an industrial inspector for the State of Ohio.

Two of Billy’s passions were traveling and flying; he was a licensed private pilot and enjoyed his Cessna airplanes. He wore many hats through the years: barber, carpenter, and, with the help of his former wife, Bonnie, and his children, he was the proud owner of Golden Valley Farms, raising Polled Hereford cattle, and Hoffman Orchards, growing peaches and apples, which were sold to local grocery stores. Billy was extremely proud of his four children, and was the first to tell anyone that each of them had a grand champion Polled Hereford steer at the Tuscarawas County Fair.

Survivors include his former wife, Bonnie Hoffman, of Park Village Southside; his children, Carol (Tom) Neiheisel of Sugarcreek, Greg (Beth) Hoffman of Port Washington, Gale (Tom) Gruver of Stone Creek, and Gwen (Paul) Yanai of New Philadelphia; his four grandchildren; his ten great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mildred Carper of Canton, and Arlene (Wayne) Mizer of Stone Creek; and his nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his brother, Olin Hoffman.

A private memorial service will be held in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Hospice Chaplain Terry Wilcox officiating. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Billy, please visit the obituaries link on the funeral home’s website.

The family would like to acknowledge everyone at both Community Hospice and Park Village Southside for their extraordinary care and for the great kindness and compassion shown to Billy - Thank You So Very Much! It is suggested that, instead of flowers, contributions in Billy’s memory be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
