Virginia "Ginny" Steitz

Virginia “Ginny” Steitz, 97, a lifelong resident of Dover and the first resident of the Inn at Northwood passed away Friday, May 26, 2017 in her home following a brief illness.

Born Jan. 23, 1920 in Tuscarawas, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Ted Stevenson and Emma Springer Stevenson Burson.

Ginny’s family owned and operated the Dairy Queen (now Softie’s) in Dover from 1964 thru 1978.

She was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover and the Joanna Circle. She was also a former member of the CCL, and she and her classmates played in their bridge club. She delivered Mobile Meals for 21 years until 2015. She was one of the original van drivers for Starlight School and Workshop. Ginny was a 1938 graduate of Dover High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 58 years, John (Jerry) Steitz who died on June 5, 1998. In addition, she was preceded by two brothers, Charles (Dale) Stevenson and Richard Burson, an infant sister, Joy Burson, her son in law, Walter Luban, and her stepfather, Tom Burson.

She will be sadly missed by her family including her four children, Sandra Luban of Dover, Sally (Gerald) Becker of Beavercreek Township, Ohio, Steven Steitz of Grand Junction, Colorado and Scott Steitz of Strasburg; four grandchildren, Beth, Brenda, David and Sarah and six great grandchildren.

A funeral service celebrating Ginny’s life will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 beginning at 10:30am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4pm and Tuesday from 9:30am until the time of services.
