Virginia Anne Hiller

Virginia Anne Hiller, 82, of Newcomerstown passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia.

Born in her home in Tuscarawas on August 27, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Roger and Bertha (Smith) Crites. She graduated from Tuscarawas High School with the class of 1953. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Kent State University and later received her master’s in special education. She began teaching at Dover and later taught special education at Indian Valley South until she retired.

On June 11, 1961 she married Terry A. Hiller, who preceded her in death on September 11, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Claude Crites who was from St. Louis Missouri, and Warren Crites who was from Asheville, North Carolina.

Virginia and Terry loved showing their dogs. The showed both Cairn Terriers and Carrie Blue Terriers for many years.

Virginia will be sadly missed by her three sisters; Carol Nellie Beck of Indianapolis, Dorothy Hewitt of New Philadelphia, and Lila West of Bolivar; close friend and neighbor, Barry Long of Newcomerstown; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will take place at Fry’s Valley Cemetery in Port Washington on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Chris Johnson officiating. Immediately following the service, a meal will be served in the Fry’s Valley Church social hall. Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 3pm-5pm. The family will not be present for calling hours.
