Richard A. Prince

Richard A. “Dick” Prince, 85, a lifelong resident of Dover died Monday, April 17, 2017 in the Park Village Health Care Center following an extended illness.

Dick retired in 1994 from Rex Piping and Supply Company in New Philadelphia and started his career with the former Dover Hardware Store where he worked 18 years.

Born April 3, 1932 in Dover, he was the son of the late Dalton E. and Vivian (Luce) Prince. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, David, Dean, and Hubert “Soup” Prince and a sister, Patricia Eileen Prince.

He was a member of the Dover First Moravian Church, Dover Moose, Teamsters Union, Dover-Zoar Rd. Gun Club, Five Waters Senior Golf Group, and was a drummer in the former White Cliffs of Dover Drum & Bugle Corps. He was a graduate of Dover High School and attended Kent State Tuscarawas. He was also previously an assistant scoutmaster in Winfield. Dick enjoyed keeping things in working order and especially enjoyed fishing trips with his sons and grandsons. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife of 68 years, Mary McKittrick Prince who he married on October 1; two sons, Monte (Valerie) Prince of Tewksbury, New Jersey and Rick (Polly) Prince of Dover; five grandchildren, Jamie (Dr. Jong) Kim of McKinney, Texas, Dr. Heather (Dr. Andrew) Roecker of Dublin, Ohio, Jonathan Richard Prince of Boise, Idaho, Justin Montgomery Prince of Morristown, N.J., and Christian Armond Prince of Denver, Colorado; three great grandchildren, Jett Kim, Xavier and Viggo Roecker; two brothers, Gary Prince of Sandusky and Donald (Barb) Prince of Dover.

A memorial service celebrating Dick’s life will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 beginning at 10:30am in the First Moravian Church at Dover with Pastor John Wallace officiating. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the church on Saturday, May 13 from 9:30am until the time of service.
