Paul Warther

December 29, 1941 — March 21, 2018

Donald Paul Warther of Palm Desert, California, passed away Wednesday, March 21st, 2018, at the age of 76. The son of the late Donnie and Ruth Warther. Paul, as he was known to those close to him, was born December 29th, 1941, in Dover, Ohio. Throughout his youth he worked with his father in the family business, Warther Auto Electric, Inc. From an early age, it was obvious that Paul enjoyed learning how things worked, and building things on his own. After his graduation from Dover St. Joseph High School in 1959, Paul continued these interests and went on to study electrical engineering at Fenn College, from which he graduated in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree. From there, he continued his studies in engineering at the University of Southern California, where he earned a master’s degree in 1966.

Following college, Paul went on to work at Hughes Aircraft in California. In his years spent there, Paul earned the position of Head of Engineering of their microelectronics division, and worked to develop several patents - one of which earned an international award. Another project that Paul was particularly proud of was managing an engineering team to implement automation for the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in 1976.

It was at Hughes Aircraft that Paul met his wife of nearly 40 years, Ellie. During the years following his retirement, Paul and Ellie built a successful business together and found time to travel frequently and spend time with their three children, Keith (wife, Sarah), Phillip, and Michael. This time also saw the birth of his five grandchildren, Kylie, Dylan, Ethan, Asher, and Haven.

In addition to his wife, three children, and five grandchildren, Paul is survived by his sisters, Kitty Dindo and Ann Gamber, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
