Laverne Hare

February 2, 1933 — July 19, 2018

LaVerne Hare, age 85, of New Philadelphia, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018, in the Inn at Northwood Village, Dover.


Born February 2, 1933, in Rush Township, Tuscarawas County, she was a daughter of the late James D. and Bessie V. Mahaffey Love. LaVerne graduated from Dover High School in 1951, and was employed by the Scio Pottery Company, Tuscarawas County Clerk of Courts, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol Interstate 77 weigh station from which she retired.


LaVerne was a member of the Uhrichsville Women of the Moose, New Philadelphia Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and the Tuscarawas County Democratic Women. She enjoyed cooking and family dinners, as well as working crosswords and playing cards with friends.


Survivors include her daughters, Joyce (Orville) Dickerson of New Philadelphia, Debbie (Bob Becker) Petry of Dover, Susie Waddington of Dennison, and Robin (James) Johnson of Uhrichsville; her grandchildren, Amanda Bridgman, Annette (Zach Shiring) Dickerson, Todd Cain, Marieta (Adam) Clark, James “Jimi” (Kristi) Festi, Alex (Kayla Ryan) Waddington, Ryin (Amanda) McDaniel, Dawn (Drew) Opfer, Lindsay (Scott Delong) McDaniel and Jordan (Kevin Naylor) McDaniel; her thirteen great-grandchildren; her sisters, Opal Milarcik, Anna (Robert) Gunter, Freda (Roman) Raber and Doris Schreffler; her sister-in-law, Betty Alexander; her many nieces and nephews; her dear friend, Pat Metzger; and her beloved dog, Coco.


Besides her parents, LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Jay W. Hare, on August 5, 2006; and her brothers, James and David Love, and Leroy and William Alexander.


Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Sunday, July 22, 3 - 5 p.m. A graveside service will be held Monday, July 23, at 1:30 p.m., in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia; Pastor Marcie Roudebush Dryden will officiate.
