June M. Herman

June M. “June Bug” Herman, 100, of Dover passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the Community Hospice Truman House.

Born on March 27, 1917 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Anna (Unsold) Souers. She married Woodrow Herman, who preceded her in death on September 23, 1953. She was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

June retired from Belden Brick in Strasburg where she worked as an office worker for over 26 years. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover, where she worked in the office during World War II. She was a member of the Friendship Circle and was the first woman to serve on the Dover City Council. She enjoyed playing Bridge and belonged to several different clubs. She loved singing and sang with the Shively Yates Group.

She will be sadly missed by her son; Fred (Kathy) Herman of Hartville; daughter, Cathee (Tom) Reed of North Carolina; along with six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In honoring June’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A memorial service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. Friends can call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. A private inurnment will take place at Dover Burial Park.
