Edgar P. "Paul" Warinner

Edgar P. “Paul” Warinner Jr., 84, of Dover passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2018 in the Community Hospice Truman House.

Born September 13, 1933 in Lewisburg, West Virginia he was a son of the late Edgar Sr. and Josephine Dempsey Warinner. Paul was also preceded in death by his sister, Joanne Sawyer.

Paul attended the University of Kentucky on a football scholarship, but he decided to enlist in the United States Navy and serve his country during the Korean War aboard the USS Hancock. Following his four years of service, he enrolled at Morehead State University in Kentucky where he played football, and met the love of his life, Gale Edmonds. After graduating, he started his career at Winchester High School where he taught and coached a variety of sports. He also taught at Wooster Triway Local Schools, was the Superintendent at Strasburg Schools and finished his long career at Fairless Local Schools as the Navarre Elementary School Principal.

Paul was an active member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church having held many different leadership positions throughout the years. He was also a member of the Dover VFW, Strasburg American Legion, Beach City Lions Club, served as a Trustee at the Stark Wilderness Center and was involved in many different civic organizations. Paul loved being outdoors, camping and fishing were his hobbies, but sports were the center of his life. He loved watching his children play during their high school and college careers, and following local high school sports …..especially his beloved Strasburg Tigers.

A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Paul will be sadly missed by his wife of almost 60 years, Gale Edmonds Warinner, whom he married on December 12, 1958; children, Paula (Donavan) Hochstetler of Idaho, Ed (Mary Beth) Warinner of Michigan, John (Patina) Warinner of New Albany, Mike (Yvette) Warinner of Westlake; sister, Harriett (Steve) Hile; brother, Iverson Warinner both of Kentucky and his five grandchildren, Madisyn, Merideth, Edward, Sydney and Jake Warinner.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3rd at 11:00 am in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Jason Humble officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Friday from 4-7 pm.
