E. Louise "Lou" Wagner

August 25, 1929 — September 3, 2018

E. Louise Wagner, 89, has found her eternal Peace in the Valley, where she will spend her daybreaks in sunshine caring for all of God’s creatures.

She died on Monday, September 3, 2018 at the Hennis Care Centre in Dover in the loving comfort of her four children.

Born Elizabeth Louise Semancik in Maynard, Ohio, on August 25, 1929 to the late John P. and Anna Semancik, she was the eighth of nine children and the last to survive.

A 1947 graduate of St. Clairsville High School, she went on to earn a Registered Nursing degree from St. Luke’s Hospital in 1950 in Cleveland. It was there that she met her future husband, Dover native, Glen T. Wagner. They were married for 24 years before his passing in 1976. Together they raised four children, Paula, Chris, Matt and Philip, instilling in them the need for compassion, the love of laughter and the art of telling a good story, and listening to one well told.

While raising her children, she worked for nearly 40 years as a nurse, including in the intensive care unit at Union Hospital and at Valley Manor and New Dawn Nursing Homes. She spent her retirement reading, enjoying her six grandchildren and caring for any wildlife creature that happened to be lucky enough to pass through her backyard. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in New Philadelphia.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her eight siblings, Ann, Helen, Olga, Vinnie, Jean, Peter, Paul and Don.

She is survived by her children, Paula (Bill) Fritz, Chris (Linda Bien), Matt (Patrice Tidrick) and Philip; her six grandchildren, Bill (Angela) Fritz and Jessica (Jason) Miller, Emily and Grace Wagner, Sarah Rhodes and Laura (Josh) Esquibel and eight great-grandchildren.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15 at 11:00 am in the Life Way Assembly of God Church at New Philadelphia with Pastor Larry Fletcher officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Private graveside services will be held at the Dover Burial Park. Those wishing to express their fondest memories may do so by visiting the online obituaries link on the funeral home’s website.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, the Dover Public Library or to the FOS (Friends of Squirrels) by spreading peanuts in your backyard.
